At the pass summit, we look towards Martigny. Behind us is the hospice.

The picture was taken at 7:00am during the sunrise, 10km behind Martigny with view to the pass. The GPS coordinates of that picture are the coordinates of the hotel Col du Grand Saint Bernard.

And then there was no way anymore on the north side. Total icy road. Here we are just past the tunnel entrance on the north side. We had then to ride back and take the tunnel to the south. There the sun had thawed the snow and ice on the mountain pass already.

And then we had reached the top. As you can see no tourists but steel blue sky in the snow. The picture shows the Hospice of the St. Bernard dogs and the kennel right in the background.

This picture was taken at the same location as the previous one, rotated by 180°. Unfortunately somewhat under exposed because of the blinding white snow. Temperature -4°C.

If you pass the two buildings on the top of the pass, you will find this scenery. Panoramic view across a small lake over to the Italian border.
