This picture was taken approx 2mls before we reached the summit of the Passo di Gavia with view towards east to the Pta. S. Matteo (3.684m) mountain.

Same position as the previous picture but this time with view to the hostel Rif. Berni al Gΰvia and the road down to Bormio.

South ramp of the Gavia, Lago di Bianco is in our back. We look down to the crazy pass road that squeezes along the hillside down to the Valle delle Messi.

the following pictures were taken during Pentecost holiday 2006 with a Nikon D70S digital camera

North side of the Passo Gavia just a little bit above the village Caterina Valfurva. We have just passed the timber line and are approx 4mls in front of the pass summit.

Here we have reached already the plateau and will shortly reach the hostel Rifugio Gavia which is not yet the pass summit. Lots of people mix that up. The summit is still 1 mile mile to go.

Summit of the Gavia pass at the end of the plateau. From here the pass road dives down the crazy path to the valley towards south.

Same position as the left picture but moved 90° counterclockwise.

Summit of the Gavia pass, view towards southwest.

When you leave the pass summit towards south you will hit lots of serpentines. We look towards the canyon. The side of the road still does not have crash bars installed (summer 2006).

Same position as the picture before but moved 90° counterclockwise. At least the southern ramp of the Gavia is no longer a gravel road. But since there are no more Tour de France type races across the Gavia, the road is in bad condition.

Again the northern ramp of the Gavia just one mile behind the village Caterina Falfurva.
