Tour to Col d'IseranCol d’Iseran and Val d’Isere a day in front of Tour de France

July 2007. Finally one week without rain when we decide to ride the Col d’Iseran. Since this day we always failed based on weather conditions and a closed pass road, but now, one day in front of the famous Tour de France, we believe it should be possible to make it.
Across the Col de la Forclaz and through the Mont Blanc tunnel we are heading from Martigny across the Petite Saint Bernard pass and dive into the preperations around the Tour de France. Riding then back through the Aosta valley and across the Grand Saint Bernard pass to Martigny and our cosy little hotel Rarnerhof. This trip we used the first time the Magellan Crossover 2250T navigation system with high res topo maps of Haute Savoye....

Col du Grand Saint BernardThe trip in Haute Savoy, or circle around Mont Blanc

June 2006. Pentecost vacation and rock slide at Saint Gotthard pass. The high pressure center west of the Balearic Islands was not yet successful to supply all of Central Europe with sunshine, however the sun shine southern of the Alpine main mountain chain was able to already supply the country with comfortable 24° C in Valais county and 26° C in the Aosta valley.

Reasons enough to start a trip around the Mont Blanc. During this trip we have met Corinne, landlady of the famous hostel Rarnerhof. Enjoy the report.

Above the village St. AntönienThe challenge riding with Willi, host of guesthouse Beverin

Willi, the landlord of the mountain guesthouse Berggasthaus Beverin sometimes leaves his residence at 1.884m/6,181ft altitude above sea-level to show his guests the most beautiful places in Switzerland. On this trip however, we have seen some small surprises.

The motorbike tour leads us to the village Saint Antoenien, across the Fluela pass, Maloja pass into the Grotta cave of Ghiggi and then down to the Italian town Chiavenna and the Spluegen pass back to Thusis......here is the report!

Lago Bianco at Bernina passThe big trip - circle in Grison county

It is September and the sun laughs in its most beautiful form. No cloud can be seen in the sky. Therefore we decide to undertake three day trips, always starting at Glaspass in Grison county. This trip was the first one and lead us up to the Stilfserjoch and back across the Albula to the mountain hostel Berggasthaus Beverin at the Glaspass.

Eight Alps passes we crossed in that day trip, easy with lots of breaks and photo shooting sessions and after return in the evening, we enjoyed the mighty dinner served by the hosts Willi and Sabine.......read more!

Pass summit Grand St. Bernard The trip across the Grand Saint Bernard pass

It is late October, when three motorbike riders decide in short notice to ride down to Valais county and to Mont Blanc. They commute with the pickup car-train from Cologne down to Lindau. Then ride along Lake of Constance, use the ferry to go across to Konstanz and from there ride via a small village named Entlebuch (where the hell is that?) and the passes in Central Switzerland down to the Mont Blanc massif.

What we have experienced during this short trip, tips for people that love decisions in short notice and more can be read in this trip report....... Enjoy it.

Grimsel pass summit with view onto the TotenseeFive Alps pass trip in Central Switzerland

From our base-camp located at the Lago Maggiore lake in Ilaty, we drove across the Simplon pass road over down to Valais county. We wanted to see the Rhone glacier and the old Saint Gotthard pass and visit the summit with its lake.

Two guys and two girls on a long trip in the counties of Uri, Valais and Berner Oberland, with lots of pictures, tips and local links.......worth to read more!

My son on the ferry across Lago MaggioreWhen Dad is on motorbike trip with his son

It was always my dream to have one day in life the chance to do a motorbike trip with my eldest son in the European Alps. I made this dream come true and spent two outstanding days with my son Moritz riding the most popular Alps passes. My son was 12 years old at this time and today (2007) he is 20 and now riding his own bike in the Alps. He never forgot all the impressions we have had during that two days. The trip started in Verbania at Lago Maggiore, led along the Italian mountain lakes over to the Engadine in Switzerland, seeing Sankt Moritz the first time in life, then the Stilfserjoch and overnight in Davos......an interesting trip

Above the village of MartignyRoundtrip around the Mont Blanc massif

We are just in front of Easter 2000 and the thermometer shows already unbelievable high values. That’s always the moment when nobody can hold us back anymore. Trip start is Thuner lake. We cruise the Valais county, leave the Valais county by riding across the Col de la Forclaz down to Chamonix. Circle around the Mont Blanc by visiting the old Italian towns Susa and Turino and return through the Aosta valley. Again we used the Lötschberg railway car-pickup to commute fast through the mountain from the Berner Oberland county to the Valais county. Even a short trip to the Eiger north rock wall was possible. And it looked just crazy when we stood with our motorbikes in the middle of all the tourists, dressed in winter coats just coming down from top of Europe
