Tierser valley

Here we ride through the Tierser valley canyon, just a view miles behind the village Blumau on the lower end of the old Niger saddle pass road. This part was washed away in the years 2004 and 2005 after a Mure (mudslide) and the road was closed. Since 2006 the road is again open. To find the entry point into this beautiful valley is not easy and can be easily missed down in the village Blumau. But if you can make it, you will never forget it, especially in the morning time when the sun is deep. But watch out for rocks on the road.

Old Nigerpass Pass road down in the Tierser canyon

This is nearly the end of the Tierser valley canyon road from Blumau (ital:Prato d’Isarco). This is also the most steepest part of it with 24%. We have taken this picture just in front of the sign to proove it. After another mile this old pass road hits the new pass road one mile before you reach the village Tiers.

view towards the Rosengarten massif

We are already two miles further and on the new pass road just behind the village Tiers with a great view towards the Rosengarten mountain massif which raises up in the back into the morning sun.

San Cipriano

The next village behind Tiers is San Cipriano, directly at the root of the Rosengarten massif. This picture was taken in October 2005 directly at village entrance of San Cipriano, view back to East towards the mighty Rosengarten.

summit Passo Nigra, Nigerpass

The pass summit of the Niger saddle is unspectacular in the middle of an evergreen forest. One curve further down the road you will find a biker meeting point at a timber restaurant with sun deck. From these dark evergreenn woods the pass got his name. Nigra means Black or Dark and that’s how it looks like here the most of the time.

view towards Rosengarten massif

This picture was taken in October 2005 from the sun terrace of the bikers point on the Niger pass summit. View towards the Rosengarten massif eastwards.

view towards Latemar mountain

That’s the South side of the Nigerpass and you are out of the forest just before you hit the Great Dolomite Alps Panoramic Road. In front of us you see the Latemar mountain group. In about 2mls this road hits the Karerpass road und after another mile the Karerpass summit. A little bit left in front of the Latemar mountains is the Lago di Careza. This picture was taken in summer 2001 with a Nikon F301 on a slide film and then scanned.
