The Ritten (ital. Renon), landmark mountain of the Bolzanos rises to the sky northeast from Bolzano. By its location with main alignment tendency to the south, it is completely covered with vineyards. In and around Bolzano the are plenty of traffic signposts to the entrance of the Ritten road and it is relatively easy to find it. The Ritten mountain can also alternatively be reached by cable car. The valley station is located east of the main train station, directly behind the entrance to the railway car transportation dock. If you take for example the ferry boat from the UK to Hamburg, you may enter the railway car transport dock in Hamburg and overnight reach Bolzano car dock - relaxed.
Once in your life you should have made the Ritten. The road is excellent, terrific grip and clear curves with endless swings hill upward. You have to travel far to hit such a great motorbike road. During riding up the hill, the view opens into the beautiful Eisacktal valley, Steinegg, the Schlern mountain and Rosengarten rock toward southeast. Shortly behind the village Auna di Sotto you should make a short break pull off to the right and enjoy the panoramic view across the valley and the Schlern mountain.
Shortly before you reach the small village Klobenstein you need to turn left and cross a railroad. This branching is easily to miss, therefore watch out. This road leads you across the summit on a relatively narrow road, over into the Sarntal valley. You will ride between meadows and pass some Tyrolean farms and behind the summit, where the road leads to the Sarntal valley, the road becomes very narrow and lots of serpentines lead down to the valley.
At the bottom of the Sarntal valley, you will hit a T-junction. You may now take a left back to Bolzano, through many small rock tunnels, plenty nice curves and pass at the castle of Runkelstein. If you take a right, you will ride up to the Pensertal valley and further up the Sarntal valley, which will bring you up to the Penserjoch pass and then further on to Sterzing in the Eisacktal valley. You will find a fast food outlet at the T-junction that offers French fries and Tyrolean sausage.
